While the advent of monsoon brings overcast skies and lush greenery that usually evades the city, it more often than not dampens the fashion spirit around. However, monsoon doesn’t have to mean drab and there’s a lot to work around with while sticking within the realm of practicality.
Here are three rain friendly looks that also strike out key fashion trends –
1) The who’s who of the fashion fraternity is obsessed with this trend. And why not? It’s practical, it’s chic, it’s more versatile than you think and it’s the best way to beat the monsoon stylishly! Invest in a denim overall like this and give it a new spin every time you step out by pairing it with everything from bright solid coloured tops, casual tees, collared shirts and the list goes on! I completed my look with a pair of waterproof brogues and pulled back my hair partly with a head band. It’s all about casual chic!
2) Everyone goes the ‘bright colour’ way during monsoon. While that’s definitely a great idea, think differently this time around. Pastels and muted colours with a pop of neon work just as beautifully against the gloomy skies. Keeping it simple yet stylish, I paired this pair of printed shorts (so practical for the season!) with neon hints with a grey top and topped it off with cork heel wedges to add a dash of colour and make a statement.
3) The good old skirt and a top combo is a classic for the rains. Get out your printed flirty number and team it with a bright fun top. Alternately, monsoon is the best time to experiment with the print on print trend. So step a little off your sartorial comfort zone and clash prints and textures. While I left my hair open, messy braids and a top knot is a great way to battle bad hair days that are a common occurrence this season.
